Gabby Assuming, Member of the NDCs Communication Team |

A member of the Communications Team
of the ruling National Democratic Congress, Gabby Assumeng has blamed
reported cases of violence recorded at some polling centres in the
ongoing biometric registration exercise on the New Patriotic Party
(NPPs) “all-die-be-die” mantra.
To him, the opposition party
should be held responsible because some members of the electorates have
resorted to violent acts because of their Presidential candidate, Nana
Akufo-Addo’s Koforidua battle cry.
The ongoing nationwide
biometric registration, which entered its second phase this week, has
been met with a lot of challenges with violence and intimidations,
recorded at various electoral centers.
Contributing to discussions on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo
Morning Show, Gabby Assuming said inasmuch as the reports of violence
at the various registration centers are worrying, one cannot rule out
the NPPs art of politics-based vandalism as the cause of these brouhaha.
“The
violence engulfing the biometric registration exercise is very
disturbing and the question all Ghanaians must ask themselves is why
this is happening now especially since this is not the first time the
country is carrying out such an exercise…I’ve always said and will
continue to say that when Nana Addo came out with his ‘all die be die’
mantra, all Ghanaians should have condemned it outrightly…if you’ve
taken notice, since Ghanaians especially the NPP heard the ‘all die be
die’ they’ve this mindset that violence is the only way their party can
win power,” he noted.
According to him, when an issue comes up,
instead of people finding ways to resolve it, all what you will hear are
shouts of ‘all die be die’.
When reminded of the incident at the
Foase Kokoben Electoral Area in the Bekwai constituency where an NDC
agent reportedly shot at and wounded a twelve year old boy, the NDCs
Communication Team member simply said “all the violence are in NPP
strong holds, Taifa, Okere, besides there is no way someone carrying a
gun on him at a polling station will just shot to kill someone if
nothing provocative had occurred. I think the all die be die battle-cry
has become an albatross around the neck of this nation and we must guard
against it”. |

Sammy Awuku |
However a Deputy Communications
Director of the opposition NPP, Samuel Awuku who was also on the show
described the NDC representative’s analysis as infantile and incoherent.
“How
can shortage of registration materials, lateness of electoral officers
to registration centers and the reckless shooting of an innocent boy by
an NDC activist be attributed to the NPP’s ‘all die be die mantra,” he
asked.
