An outspoken Member of Parliament for the Lower Manya constituency,
Michael Teye Nyaunu, has counselled the embattled MP for Assin North,
Kennedy Agyapong, to apologise to Ghanaians for statements likely to
inflame passion.
.
Speaking after his release on Thursday, Hon. Agyapong sought
to downplay his comments which the police say could have incited
violence. He is on a GHC400, 000 bail and facing charges of
treason felony, attempts of terrorism and genocide.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) lawmaker is calling on his colleague legislator to publicly apologise.
“When I heard the replay from other positions, I think the most
honourable thing for my good friend to do is to apologise to Ghanaians,”
Hon. Nyaunu told Citi News.
“If that is not what he said, at least that is what Ghanaians perceive
he said. I think it will be honourable for him to
sincerely apologise.”
Hon. Nyaunu is also concerned that the opposition New
Patriotic Party took advantage of the situation to make Mr.
Agyapong a hero.
“They made him a hero because characteristically the NPP are good in
turning tides in their favour. They were able to amass people
to let them believe he is being intimidated. A lot of people
are vulnerable and I can tell you that some people have taken him as a
hero,” the Lower Manya MP said.
