Sekou: Give Nana Addo a chance to prove himself

Former member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr Sekou Nkrumah has asked Ghanaians to give Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo a chance to rule to ascertain whether or not he can perform.

He said the problems confronting the nation have a lot to do with the failure of the current leadership, hence the need for a change. However, he said, that change will only come if Ghanaians are committed to bringing it to reality.

“…We need to really become more involved…not only voting for leaders who can perform but making sure that they perform.”

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer has promised to make secondary education free and to create more jobs when elected as president. And the son of Ghana’s first president, Dr Kwame Nkrumah - who thinks Akufo-Addo has a strong personality – has asked the citizenry to give him a try.

Speaking on the Super Morning Show on Joy FM Tuesday, Sekou asserted that the Mills administration had failed in living up to the ideology of the NDC as a socialist party. For instance, he said in the area of housing, the government should have invested in the construction of simple affordable houses that majority of Ghanaians can afford, but it's rather providing homes for the rich.

Dr Nkrumah said: “I cannot say he (Nana) can or he cannot (perform). He has to be given the chance to prove himself.”

He discounted claims that his move to support the NPP will affect his credibility, adding that Ghanaians have been changing governments for a long time now and questioned if that was a stain on their credibility.
