Ken Agyapong released finally

The New Patriotic Party’s Member of Parliament for Assin North, Kennedy Agyapong, has finally been released after securing two bails in one day and spending three days in Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) cells.

The police had a tough time leading him out of the court as hundreds of NPP sympathisers thronged the premises to follow the high profile case of treason.

Hon. Agyapong is currently addressing a teeming crowd at the NPP headquarters here in Accra.

The embattled legislator has gone through a marathon legal session today before gaining his freedom. In what has been christened “A Tale of Two Bails” – the lawyers of the legislator first secured a bail for him over his unlawful detention.

The lawmaker has been charged with treason felony, attempt to commit genocide and terrorism.

Hon. Agyapong, whose statement on an Accra-based radio station, Oman FM, was found to be inciting and inflammatory was once again whisked to a High Court for the charges to be amended.

The State prosecution amended the charge from treason to treason felony, attempt to commit genocide and terrorism. However, an Accra High Court heard the plea of defense counsel and granted the MP bail in the sum of GhC200, 000.

The judge ordered for his release on health grounds. The lawmaker is reported to have high blood pressure following his detention.
